Learning Styles

Each of us learns in a unique way. Knowing how you learn best makes a significnt difference to your learning success. Learning styles often relate to your own personal intelligence area. Below are a list of recognised areas of intelligence. See if you can find yours.

Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences


Musical / Rhythmic

Communicates or understands emotions conveyed through music.

 (Responds well to the followoing activies :- Sing, hum, whistle, clap, appreciate, compose, perform, write, find, listen, present, express. )



Senses moods, feelings, and needs of others. Builds relationships and works collaboratively and effectively in a team.

(Responds well to the following :-Feel, compromise, collaborate, care, show, create.)




Aware of, knows, and understands one's own hopes, dreams, goals, aspirations, emotions, thoughts, ideas, and convictions.

(Responds well to the following :-Reflect, write, reveal, monitor, assess, produce, consider, think about, wonder.)


Bodily / Kinaesthetic

Uses both mind and body in the display of motor skills and the performance of physical tasks and functions, and to manipulate objects.

(Responds well to the following :- Make, create, build, simulate, ride, track, trace. )

Visual / Spatial

Perceives, creates, and changes visual objects mentally. Creates and interprets artistic works and other visuals, and orients oneself or navigates within an environment or location.

(Reponds well to the following :- Design, create, imagine, draw.)



Verbal / Linguistic

Uses language for a variety of purposes including to persuade, inform, communicate, solve problems, remember, entertain, and acquire new knowledge.

(Responds well to the following :- Read, write, listen, speak, debate, record.)



  Mathematical / Logical

Recognises and explores patterns, categories, and relationships using objects or symbols in a logical, ordered, and sequential way.

(Responds well to the following :- Research, explore, count, compute, calculate, report, compare, contrast, measure, outline, solve, reason, sequence, find, estimate.)





Discern, identify, organise, and classify plants and animals. Seek, obtain, and put order to information about the natural world.

(Responds well to the following :- Describe, connect, classify, categorise, identify, discern.)
