What are National Standards?

National Standards in reading, writing and mathematics provide signposts that give teachers, children, parents, families and whānau a clear idea of where children are at in their learning and what they have to do next.

Junior mathematics and English reports have been written according to the New Zealand Curriculum Levels where B = Basic, P = Proficient and A = Advanced.
  • By the end of Year 7 students should be at 4B
  • By the end of Year 8 students should be at 4P/4A
  • By the end of Year 9 students should be at 5B
  • By the end of Year 10 students should be at 5A.
