Football 2010

Wow, what a great year for football!

1st XI

(Left to right) Back: Jasmine Wren (coach), Sherry Ng Lam, Shanley Compton, Courtney Horler, Naomi Lovodua (captain), Nikita Parkin, Andrea McDermott, Mr Shiu (TIC Football).

Front: Nicole Farac, Renee Berveridge, Kayla Paredo, Thea Manuel, Helayna Ogden, Cynthia Turagabeci. Absent: Stacey Millar (coach), Candice Roth, Danielle Heslop

The 1st XI only just managed to qualify for the CHAMPIONSHIP round and with a change of tactics and extra training sessions. The players made great improvements, even drawing even with the eventual winners of this division. Massive thanks to coach Jasmine Wren and ex-St Dom’s student and assistant coach Stacey Millar.

The Social XI came fourth in the CHAMPIONSHIP round. This was a super result considering that fun, camaraderie and friendships were the main aims of the game. Many thanks go out to the coach Mike Walker and manager Miss Thornton.

The 2nd XI narrowly missed out a place in the Championship round, so had to settle into the PLATE round. The players gathered their energy and spirit to fully dominate and came first! Huge thanks to coach Colin Corkill and manager Mr Martin.

Junior XI

(Left to right) Back: Kirk Chapman (coach), Maria Woodruffe, Cassidy Repia, Jaime Vaughan, Julia Shearer (captain), Tiliana Mataio, Marielle D’Souza, Estelle O’Brien

Front: Natalia McNeil, Kelsea Broekhuisen (captain), Olivia McIver, Alana Misselbrook, Michaela Curtis, Sara Ibrahim, Isobel Cain. Absent: Miss Hewetson (manager), Nikita Naidu, Ashley Shaw.

The Junior XI had the most successful season of any junior team in the history of the College and amazingly undefeated until the very last game of the season. The team play with passion and skill in every game. A number of records were broken such as the 14-0 win against Massey. Another highlight was the intense win against Mt Albert. Well done girls! The support and encouragement from parents and friends was phenomenal. The future is certainly bright and exciting. Much thanks go to coach Kirk Chapman and manager Miss Hewetson.

These are most promising results and another good overall year for football. The St Dominic’s College community is blessed with so many talented and committed volunteer coaches and managers. Lastly, thanks for the great parental support at games and transport to away games.

Mr M. Shiu (TIC Football)
