Welcome to ePortfolios

Academic coaching was introduced in 2012 across the whole College. This ‘Teacher as Coach’ approach begins with the premise that teachers play an active role in coaching young people towards both academic and personal development.

As part of this process, we are delighted to have launched e-Portfolios for every student on the Ultranet. E-Portfolios are a part of the Ultranet - in uSpace that works much like a Facebook page though only teachers, parents and students selected by your daughter can access their pages. Over the few weeks beginning late February students will complete between one and three short tasks every week in uSpace. The purpose of these tasks is to encourage the learners to record their work, achievements and goals. It also gives them genuine and regular opportunities to reflect upon their learning, to share and be supported in this.

Academic coaching and the use of e-Portfolios are central to learning. They are a repository that demonstrates a process of learning and supports both pastoral and curriculum outcomes.

Most Form Classes will make use of the school computer facilities to start these tasks, however, it may take longer to complete some of the tasks and so it is expected that these tasks be completed in the student’s own time. This e-portfolio will stay with each student until they leave school and they will be able to transfer the information to their new place of learning.

Form Teachers and other coaches will be monitoring task completion as they be will essential for goal setting, planning and reporting. You will be able to see all of these tasks as well as past school reports and their current timetable. Furthermore, you will be able to dialogue with the teacher and your daughter through your daughter’s uSpace. To access uSpace, log into Ultranet and click on “View uSpace profile” for your daughter.

Ultimately, we will empower students to plan and develop their own learning. Students will be more motivated, successful and adaptable learners.  Students will become “confident, connected, actively involved life-long learners” (MOE 2007).
Here's Wikipedia's take on the subject of e-portfolios - An electronic portfolio, also known as an e-portfolio or digital portfolio, is a collection of electronic evidence assembled and managed by a user, usually on the Web (also called Webfolio). E-portfolios are used extensively in education (schools & higher education) and their use is expanding in professional recruitment & job applications, continuing professional development and therapy groups
